September in the Red Fish Factory

Wrap the Body” - het omwikkelde lichaam

IMG_5754

vrijdag 10, zaterdag 11 en zondag 12 september

Red Fish Factory, Helmstraat 139

'Wrap the Body - Wrap the Sensitivity”'

big worries, sleepless nights, full manpower, 2 big trucks, 2 fork lifts, paying out a new cable to the municipal nuclear power plant,... and here we are:

Red Fish Factory will be able to do the printing in its own rooms, finally!

During their studies the students learn the basics of producing fabric and clothes, dying and yarning with traditional manners and sophisticated technolgies. The excelent equipped ultra-modern university on the one hand and the cosmopolitan city on the other hand form an innovative source of inspiration and creativity.

Christoph Broich @ the Chicago History Museum

render Chicago suntimes

press: Chicago Suntimes about the esposed outfit of Christoph Broich given by Gillion Carrara

GILLION CARRARA

She is: Director of the Fashion Resource Center at the School for the Art Institute.

She donated: An afternoon ensemble by German-born designer Christoph Broich.

What attracted her to the dress: I fell in love with it because of the way it was constructed. He took white cloth and used pins to create pockets, sleeves and pleats. He steamed the garment flat and then silk screened it black. When he removed the pins, the fabric fell open to reveal areas of white. He created a pattern by concealing part of it. Those who don't love avant-garde think it's strange. Those who do, love it.

Parting with a prized possession: I wore it so much, I finally thought 'OK, people have seen me in that uniform of mine, let's give it up.'

LARA

Art in Progress: BE LARA, BE ART, BE OLD, BE YOUNG, BE PART OF ART

"LARA" is inspired by a video that Christoph made about 12 years ago

this video will be projected at the exhibition: on a lazy day Lara is hanging around at home, knitting, watching TV and cooking tea, red tea!

Now Christoph is searching for Lara:

The shop window says already "LARA wo bist du", which means "Lara where are you? The window will develop with Vitrine 2005

LARA Casting: searching for Lara: the whole evening Polaroid will be taken from

"Lara", finding out the right Lara look. The polaroids will become part of the exhibition

LARA Exhibition: the new exhibits of Christoph Broich are

  • skins of women in latex and fabric

  • a table with teapot and underpants in latex and fabric

  • a figure of Lara in her outfit and showing her underwear

  • a work made of lots of steel boards with slips sewn on the steel, pressed and printed

  • a work made of steel boards showing a x-ray vision of Lara's underpants

  • not at least a work made of Polaroids taken in the shop the evening before

Win Lara's Underpants!

visitors of the opening in the gallery are asked to choose their favourite Lara and make chance to win her underpants
